Our Next Meeting: 14th January, 2025

News Update May 2020

20th May 2020

Lengthsman Scheme

Life may not be quite normal but the parish council continues to function despite the continuing lockdown. Our lengthsman scheme was temporarily suspended for the first few weeks of the lockdown while assessments were made about the safety of the programme in the light coronavirus outbreak. We are pleased to say that he has returned to work as from the beginning of May. This is a crucial time of year as the verges grow at lightning speed and it takes some keeping up with. Robin is also deputising for the volunteer litter pickers as this operation has been suspended for now. If you do see any litter or fly tipping, please let the clerk know and it will be dealt with.

Similarly, the dog bin collections in Flyford Flavell are still continuing.

Parish Council and Parish Meetings

The parish council continues to meet by the miracle of our internet system. Virtual meetings are held by ZOOM and members of the public are able to join if necessary. Please look out for the agendas where you will find the instructions for joining the meetings. We have no indication when normal meetings will resume. The regulations allowing parish council meetings to be held by internet are now in force until next May. Sadly, there will be no parish meetings this year.

Broadband

The delivery of the fibre broadband project north of the A422 continues to be a problem. Openreach have been working throughout the lockdown but have not been allowed to make any connections to people’s houses. The information I have, is that this situation is being eased and the expectation is that the infrastructure will be complete by the end of May.

Three Parishes Hall

The Three Parishes Hall has been successful in obtaining a substantial grant for the planned refurbishment. This has required a planning application to be made and special arrangements for the bats in the loft.

It is hoped, all being well, that work will commence in October and be complete by next April. The hall will have to be closed for some of this time but as that is likely to follow on from the forced closure of the building because of Covid-19 we really want to keep any further disruption to a minimum.

Flyford Green

We have also been successful in obtaining some funding towards the proposed works on the village green. We are still a little short of our target and we are looking for further funding. At the moment most funders are concentrating on coronavirus issues but we are hoping that things will return to normal in the next few months. Nevertheless, some of the landscaping works will go ahead this autumn and our detailed plans will be released during the summer. The village fund raising will resume as soon as the time is right.

Planning Department

Wychavon planning department is still functioning and we are dealing with planning applications as they come in. All the planning officers are working from home so the system is a little slower than usual but decisions are being made.

The enforcement team are offering a limited service.

Long term planning for the updated SWDP is on track and we should have details about the full proposals in September. This will include the proposed large scale developments at Throckmorton and Whittington.
